July 23 - Beginning Embroidery

Embroidery is a fun, easily transportable medium anyone can learn. Join us to learn some basic embroidery stitches in this fun workshop for anyone over 12. We will go over materials, creating and transferring patterns, and then practice 8 basic stitches to get you started. Once you're done with your stitch sampler, you can hang it or even frame it!
In class you'll discuss tools that can be used to make sewing easier such as hoops and thimbles as well as how to transfer your designs. You'll receive a printable embroidery booklet with diagrams included and you'll leave this workshop excited to start embroidering everything in sight!
Supplies: You will receive a complete class kit to take home, including:
- Embroidery Stitch booklet
- 6 Colors of embroidery floss
- White fabric
- Embroidery hoop
- Embroidery needles
Ages 12+. Adults and teens of all levels welcome! It held indoors masks are required to protect our immunocompromised community members. Let's look out for one another.

About the teacher:
Kieren Dutcher is teaching artist and writer in Berkeley, California who works in many types of media, especially gouache painting, printmaking, quilting and embroidery. She grew up in Oakland in a family of makers. Kieren earned a BFA at CCAC, later an MA in Art Education, and has taught art for many years. Her artwork is inspired by the beautiful California landscape where, folk art and COLOR. She loves to paint the small things I notice and that bring her happiness - a beautiful flower, bird, pattern or texture.
